My Life: Straight Up with a Twist
Delving In: DevoteesIt is in our human nature to want to be admired. Everyone wants to be praised and flattered by someone else. It makes anyone’s self-esteem improve. It is a great feeling, but what about when the admiration comes from a questionable source?
This has been a topic I have wanted to cover for some time because a lot of people within our own disabled community have either not discovered it, or have not been given enough information about it. My topic of choice for this month’s column is the subject of devotees.
Audacious Person Nominee
In 2007, Jessica Galli (Hillsborough, N.J.) established herself as one to watch at the upcoming Paralympic Games in Beijing on the track, stamping her name all over the record books in the process. Nate Tauzer: A Swimmer's Stroke on ObstaclesCoolly, I look out across the pool, on my left is a man without a leg and on the right another man without a hand. A chill runs through me as I question my reasons of being in this line of characters. After all, I have no missing limbs or any obvious handicaps. I look at the pure determination in their faces and it makes me remember my own struggles.
